I believe I just heard this on the local news. The Board of Directors of the Museum of Art just announced a new rate structure for admission. Adult ticket goes from zero dollars to eighteen dollars. Can that be right? What is the percentage of increase? The mathematician would say that is undefined. The sociologist should say it is unconscionable, effectively further limiting cultural opportunities for those who have the fewest such opportunities in the first place.
Or am I reading this all wrong?

I have been to plenty of free museums and attractions and while I agree that it limits accessibility, sometimes I prefer the paying venue. It's better kept, less crowded, and I find it more enjoyable. Here in Chicago, we have to pay for attractions, but many museums offer a free day. I think that is a good alternative.
Lin, pondering this. Hmmm. Would I rather enjoy the museum with a few well-heeled patrons, or with a crowd of urchins needing to be corralled? Well, I see your point, but I'm not sure. Sidenote: I am not opposed to "paying for what I get," but for a guy who raised his family in an era where six bucks would seat one along the third base line, or two bucks would buy a first-run movie, today's prices seem absurd. Yes, I understand inflation, but my heart remembers ninety cent per hour paychecks.
Their way of saying, "Go away, kid, you bother me?"
Chuck, or perhaps it is just a way of saying we won't ask for another three mill levy on the taxpayers.
