ComMENd Yourselves

The scripture lesson is 2 Corinthians 6:1-13. an exhortation of Paul to the church at Corinth.
A Fathers' Day celebration of true masculinity, not the masculinity perpetuated by modern culture, the sexual, domineering, he-man caricature of manhood portrayed in the media.

Commend ourselves to others.  Commend: sit together, stand  near, introduce.  "This guy is worthy."

Grace is the foundation for true masculinity. to be commendable before others.  You may be the only Bible an observer reads.

Grace is God's influence over you to become a true man.
1.  Grace allows us humility and power.
Even in trying to be the best man one can be, grace gives one humility that others may not stumble.

And grace gives not only humility but power-- the power of godly influence.

How are you influencing others around you?

2.  True masculinity is both tough and soft: not either/or but both/and.
True masculinity overcomes, it is bold in Christ, tough.  But it is also kind and caring, soft in sincere love.

3.  True masculinity is consistent no matter the circumstances.
Whether the wind is in the sails or buffets against us, masculinity is consistent.

4,  True masculinity is affectionate.
As verse 11 indicates, it is to speak with an "open heart" as to ones children.
To commend oneself, be affectionate.  As God loves us, we are to love others.

Call to discipleship:  Men, can you commend yourselves?

Do I live a life that is commendable?
