Wondering

Watching the weather report on the noon "news."  Chirky girl is reading the stats, waving her arms as the radar shows in the background.

At the bottom of the screen this script

1 to 2 inches rain this afternoon
Water pondering in places

which naturally caused me to wonder what the water is thinking about, what exactly is it "pondering"?

It’s a good thing we aren’t playing Scrabble. I’d have called you on “Chirky.” A look on the internet tells me that the term is 19th century and archaic but is indeed a word, which leads me to this. Which is correct, “I was woken up” or “I was awakened?” My penchant for Shakespeare causes me to lean toward the latter. Apparently news casters do not share my sentiment.

TV captions are a constant source of guffaws.

Ilene, yes, I am nothing if not archaic. To your question, "awakened." Be it correct or not, "woken" grates on my sensitivities.

Grace, perhaps the only real reason to watch TV?

The water is probably pondering about the meaning of puddling.
