Name Game

You may have noticed that most churches these days are led by a person whose first name is "Pastor." His or her last name is almost always very similar to or the same as a common given name, e.g., Pastor Bob, Pastor Naomi, Pastor Brian.  Curious.  ;-)

It's that respect/familiarity thing. Like when I was a kid and we'd call the neighbor moms "Mrs. Sandy" or "Mrs. Rosemary."

Lin, it is almost a universal practice these days.

When I was a youngster I believe the only adults whom I addressed by their first names were my aunts and uncles. And "Aunt" or "Uncle" always preceded the name.

Around here pastors are named that way. Females, without regard to marital status, are all Miss .

Chuck, haven't heard the use of "Miss" in recent history.
